QMS
Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) is an ISO certified Institution having successfully transitioned from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015 in November 2017. KIST is fully committed to the implementation of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) which has led to improved service delivery to her customers and stakeholders. The Quality Management Representative ensures that the QMS processes are implemented, communicated and understood by all staff in the Institute. This has been done through documentation of the processes in an all-inclusive participatory process. The processes which are developed are in tandem with the Institute’s policies and operations to avoid discrepancies
KIST takes pride in a functional automated QMS platform on which internal audits are carried out at least twice in a financial year. The Institute has twenty-four qualified internal auditors who assist in monitoring the processes through scheduled audits and follow-ups. Implementation of Quality Management System is consistently monitored through internal audits so that it provides positive results to KIST. Surveillance audit is done once in a year. Since one of the main objectives of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System is customer satisfaction, it is vital that all staff understand customer needs, and are able to work towards satisfying these needs through customer satisfaction feedbacks.
The Quality Management Representative reports to top management on the performance of QMS and identifies any needs for improvement so that action is taken to address gaps for purpose of continual improvement of the system. Management review meetings are done at least twice in a year and is chaired by the Principal. The top management is committed to compliance of ISO 9001:2015 and implementation of the QMS.
