Electrical and Electronics
The Electrical and Electronics Department offers training at three levels namelyArtisan,Certificate and Diploma
The Artisan program is a skill intensive course and the trainees are highly competent in practical applications.
The certificate program includes both theory and practical training. The trainees are capable of interpreting drawings and simple formulas related to the area of specialization.
Diploma programs are largely theoretical but with substantial element of practical in key areas. The trainees are capable of carrying out tests, measurements and analysis of data related to the area of training.
Diploma Courses
Diploma courses in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Power option, Telecommunication option and Instrumentation option) provide trainees with prerequisite skills, knowledge and competences to work as supervisors and technicians both on construction sites and in the Industries.
At the end of the course, the trainers will be able to:
Minimum qualification is a mean grade of C- (MINUS) and above in KCSE or pass in relevant Craft Course. To excel with ease in this field(s), science (physics & chemistry) and mathematics techniques are used in solving electrical problems in daily basis. The course is modular and has a total of three modules (3-year course).
Craft certificate Programmes
Craft certificate courses are in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Power option and Telecommunication option). Trainees are equipped with skills, knowledge and attitudes that will enable the craftsman to:
Minimum qualification is a mean grade of D (PLAIN) and above in KCSE or pass in relevant Artisan Course. To excel with ease in this field(s), science (physics & chemistry) and mathematics techniques are used in solving electrical problems in daily basis. The course is modular and has a total of two modules (2-year course).
Artisan Programmes
Artisan in electrical installation programme equips trainees with hands-on skills, knowledge and attitudes that will enable the wireman effectively perform tasks in electrical installations (house wiring and machine installations).
Minimum qualification is a mean grade of D- (MINUS) and above in KCSE. To excel with ease in this field(s), science (physics & chemistry) and mathematics techniques are used in solving electrical problems in daily basis. The course is modular (1-year course).
Mode of Delivery
Mode of delivery is structured course work, workshop and laboratory practical sessions laced with industrial attachments all aimed at enabling the trainees to acquire knowledge, competencies and experiences so as to work in confidence and become self-reliance.
Electrical and Electronic engineers’ generally uses the hands-on, application-oriented approach to solve emerging issues and problems. More focus on using current, state-of-the-art and emerging technologies is emphasised.
