The department of Applied Sciences started as a servicing department, then called Mathematics and Science in 1985. Its mandate then was to service other departments in these areas.Later the B.O.G challenged the department to start courses in applied Sciences and in 2001 the department admitted the first students in certificate in Science Laboratory Technology (SLT). Since then the department has grown to include Diploma in Applied Statistics (DAS) in 2006, Diploma in Applied Biology (DAB) in 2011 and Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (DAC) in 2011.
The Department is committed to provide and promote quality training in all areas of Applied Sciences that is responsive to the needs of a changing society.
So far the graduates from Applied Sciences have been absorbed in Local Industries, Research Institutions, Technicians in Secondary Schools and some even working abroad.
The department is adequately staffed with 21 lecturers; 16 have a master’s degree while the rest have first degree from our local universities.
In the year 2014, the department intends to start diploma courses in Environmental Science, Agribusiness, Community Health, Science Laboratory Technology and Medical Laboratory Sciences. The department continues to strive to be a center of excellence in training in all areas of Applied Sciences
